VAK Survey

Read each statement carefully. To the left of each statement there is a letter - V, A or K. Write down the letter that is MOST like you. If you are an adult completing this, try to think back to when you were a child.

Answer honestly as there are no correct or incorrect answers. It is best if you do not think about each question too long, as this could lead you to the wrong conclusion. If you feel that there are two answers that are both 'very you' please feel free to write both letters down

1.When you spell, do you:
V see the word?
A sound the word out?
K write the word down and make sure it feels right?

2. When you remember specific incidents, do you:
V see well-focused, colour pictures?
A hear sounds?
K see a few pictures with movement in them?

3. When you are thinking really hard and concentrating, are you distracted by:
V untidiness?
A noise?
K movement?

4. When you are angry, do you:
V silently seethe inside?
A shout and scream?
K clench your fists, grit your teeth, stomp about and go away angry?

5. When you forget someone or something, do you:
V forget names but remember faces?
A forget faces but remember names
K remember where, when and what you did?

6. When you are reading do you:
V enjoy reading description and imagine your own pictures?
A hear the characters talking?
K imagine acting it out?

7. When you are relaxing, do you:
V watch TV or read?
A listen to music?
K play sport or games?

8. When you are learning, do you prefer:
V work that is written or drawn?
A to listen, or be told instructions
K to take part in activities?

9. When you are talking, do you:
V talk little and do not want to listen for long?
A like to listen and want to talk as well?
K talk with your hands and gesture a lot?

10. When you are being praised by someone, do you prefer to:
V get a written note?
A hear it said to you?
K be given a pat on the back or a hug?

Now add up how many V's, A's and K's you have. You are likely to have a spread across all three but there may be one or two styles in which your score is higher. This is a guide to your own preferences.

You will best learn by using ALL three styles, rather than just your preferred learning style. So it's best to exploit your own style and develop the others as much as you can! We wish you every success!
