Funding is a real issue. Brazilian schools get very limited funds. Teachers do not earn high salaries and often have to take on second jobs like waitressing to make ends meet. Additionally they often have to pay for training courses they attend out of their own pockets. Couple that with limited resources and very large class sizes and you begin to see some of the hardships that our colleagues have to face on a daily basis. So far, Aprender has been able to offer a gratis service - much to the amazement of the staff, Directors and government officials we have met.

We do not want to take any funds away from schools that are already hard pressed. Instead, we want to work as partners with us shouldering the financial responsibility. This is a fantastic witness and has led to many amazing conversations.

To date, Aprender has been voluntary funded by individuals and larger organisations such as Churches. We are really grateful for the support we've received so far - both financially and through other means.

This High School in Manaus, Amazonia has
800 students
and just 8 computers
.

As we are not yet a registered charity, Bookham Baptist Church (which is a registered charity) in Surrey have offered to act as a sorting house for funding Aprender. We desperately need more financial help. The opportunities are massive and we are getting amazing access within the education sector. We would love to do more. Can you help? Even small donations add up and will make big differences. If you would like to contribute towards the on-going work of Aprender, please send cheques payable to "Bookham Baptist Church" to:

Bookham Baptist Church,
Lower Road,
Bookham,
Surrey KT23 4DH.

Please write "Aprender" on the reverse of the cheque.

If you would like any further information please contact us on aprenderuk@googlemail.com

Many thanks.
