APTO Early Years Programme

When young children receive a high-quality education, research (the Perry Preschool Project) shows the significant positive impact it has on their lives. Studies reveal that children under the age of five who have strong educational foundations achieve greater academic success and contribute more fully to society than those without such opportunities.

HighScope & the Active Learning approach

At the Aprender Education Development Foundation, we embrace a well-researched approach to early years education known as HighScope. Initially developed by Dr David Weikart to improve outcomes for children in underprivileged environments the HighScope approach, with over 50 years of research, has been adopted in many countries. Highscope, an active learning approach, is firmly rooted in solid child development theory and encourages children's decision-making skills by providing an engaging learning environment.

The active learning approach is highly effective and is remarkably straightforward to put into practice. It can be tailored to meet the requirements of various countries' Early Years curricula by adapting the daily routine accordingly.

Aprender Early Years Education Development

Aprender's unique approach enables quality early years education ideas and practices to be made accessible to disadvantaged communities that typically lack access to such valuable resources.  Importantly, cost is not a barrier as our training and development services are provided free of charge, thanks to the support of our generous investors.

The active learning approach can be adapted for schools in any culture or context and simply requires a classroom equipped with interesting locally obtained materials which encourages exploration and experimentation.

During the course of our training, teachers, classroom assistants and trainee volunteers learn how to support and enhance children's learning experiences,  to develop a daily routine which offers children a wide array of educational activities and  to provide a supportive climate for learning.

Aprender offers a range of methods to support and train those involved in Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs. We provide leadership training through in-person sessions, virtual meetings and online videos. Our approach is tailored to each school or setting's unique needs, and we are committed to nurturing local coaches who can build and sustain local capacity.
