Season of Light, Season of Change - Nepal

ree

Meet Karna, Head Teacher of Immanuel D. B. School in Dhanghadi in Western Nepal.

Dhangadhi's economy is predominantly based on agriculture. The fertile plains surrounding the city make it an ideal location for cultivating crops such as rice, wheat, sugarcane, maize, and vegetables. Dhangadhi is the gateway to nearby tourist places like Shuklaphanta National Park, Ghodaghodi Lake and Khaptad National Park. It is the connecting city between nearby cities of Mahendranagar, Attariya and Dipayal Silgadhi. It is also a land route to enter Nepal from India.

Aprender have supported Karna and the school for a number of years. Here's his replies to our questions.

1. What part of the Aprender training has made the biggest difference to you, and why?

The biggest difference came from learning interactive and student-centered teaching methods. The training helped me understand how to make lessons more engaging and practical. It taught me to focus not only on delivering content but also on helping students discover and apply knowledge themselves.

2. How has your approach to teaching or leading changed since?

I have become more reflective and intentional in my planning. I now prepare lessons that include hands-on activities, group discussions, and real-life connections. As a leader, I encourage teachers to collaborate, share ideas, and create joyful learning environments.

3. Have you noticed any changes in your students since applying what you learned?

Yes, I have seen a big difference. Students are more active and confident in class. They ask questions, express their ideas freely, and enjoy learning. Their participation and understanding have improved, and the classroom environment feels more positive and energetic.

4. If you could say one thing to the people who made your training possible, our donors and supporters, what would it be?

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude. Your support has truly empowered us as teachers and leaders. Because of you, our students are learning better and dreaming bigger. Thank you for investing in education and changing lives.

5. What’s your dream for your students or your school in the coming year?

My dream is to see our students become confident, creative, and compassionate learners who make a difference in their community. I also hope to make our school a model of joyful, quality education where every child feels valued and inspired to achieve their best.
