Apto Cascade is a sustainable train-the-trainer model that equips local education leaders to deliver high-quality professional development at scale, building lasting capacity within education systems.
How a Fellowship of school leaders reaches ten million children
Aprender's reach grows through a four-tier cascade.
Each tier multiplies the next. Together, they turn a community of experienced school leaders giving two hours a week into a mechanism for system-wide change.


TIER ONE —
APTO FELLOWS
Experienced UK and global school leaders, recruited and trained as Apto Fellows. They are the highest tier of the cascade, and the people who hold the quality of the model.
Three levels- Associate Fellow, Apto Fellow, and Senior Fellow, make the Fellowship a pathway, not a one-off appointment.
Target: 32 active Fellows by 2029.
TIER TWO —
IN-COUNTRY APTO COACHES
Government education officers, training college tutors and senior school leaders inside the countries where we work, recruited and trained as Apto Coaches by the Apto Fellows. They often come through partnerships with, for example, Partners in Excellence International. They are the bridge between the global community and the schools. They speak the language, know the system, and stay in post when programmes end.
Target: 5,000 in-country Apto Coaches across 40 nations.


TIER THREE — SCHOOL LEADERS AND TEACHERS
Each Apto Coach trains and supports around 100 school leaders and teachers, using the Apto suite of programmes.
Target: 500,000 educators trained.
TIER FOUR — CHILDREN
Each educator reaches approximately 20 children every year, a number that, at scale, becomes the ten million children of Ambition 1.
Target: 10 million children empowered.


WHY THE CASCADE MATTERS
Most teacher CPD programmes face a hard choice between depth and scale. Workshops reach large numbers but rarely change practice. Intensive coaching changes practice but rarely reaches more than a handful of schools.
The Cascade Model is designed to give Aprender both. Quality is held by the Fellowship at the top of the cascade. Scale is delivered by the Coaches inside national systems. Sustainability is delivered by the fact that the Coaches are already inside the systems, they do not leave when our funding ends.
