Aprender Apto Fellowship

The Apto Fellowship is Aprender's coach development programme, equipping education officers with the knowledge, tools and coaching expertise needed to build local capacity and sustainably scale school improvement throughout their education system.

Two hours a week. Lasting impact.

The Apto Fellowship is a community of experienced school leaders giving their professional expertise to train government education officers across the countries where Aprender works. It is the engine that turns the Apto Model into a cascade reaching ten million children.

If you are a UK or international school leader with the experience and the desire to apply it where it is needed most, the Fellowship is built for you.

WHAT YOU DO AS A FELLOW

Apto Fellows coach in-country Apto Coaches; government education officers, training college tutors and senior school leaders inside the countries where Aprender works. The coaching is delivered remotely, with occasional country visits where appropriate. The time commitment is around two hours a week.

Fellows are inducted, trained in the Apto methodology, supported through structured supervision circles, and progress through three tiers.

Three Tiers, One Pathway

Associate Fellow — for school leaders new to the Fellowship and to the Apto methodology. Around 12 months of induction, training and supervised coaching. Around two hours a week.

Apto Fellow — for Associate Fellows who have completed induction. Independent coaching of in-country Apto Coaches, with peer supervision and quality review.

Senior Fellow — for experienced Apto Fellows. Senior Fellows lead inductions, hold supervision circles, contribute to course design, and represent Aprender to partners.

Why It Matters

The Fellowship is the mechanism by which Aprender reaches scale.

Each Apto Fellow trains in-country Apto Coaches who, in turn, train around 100 school leaders and teachers each.

At full scale, the Fellowship multiplies into 500,000 educators and ten million children across the next decade.

This is the Cascade Model. The Fellowship is what makes it work.

Give And Receive

The Apto Fellowship gives experienced school leaders a way to keep contributing after leaving full-time leadership by training and coaching educators internationally. Fellows receive induction into the Apto methodology, ongoing supervision, access to the Apto Connect platform, and a pathway to progress to Senior Fellow.

In return, they commit around two hours a week, uphold safeguarding and professional standards, and join a global community of leaders shaping education in low-resource settings, a meaningful way to leave a lasting legacy.

Make a Difference

Mr Matengu, head teacher at Kids Alive Academy in Zambia, in his own words: “Today, I can proudly say I am a leader because of the support I got from Aprender.” His school's results moved from below 50% to above 80%.

People who were shaped by a great teacher are the ones who decided no head teacher should have to learn the hardest job in the world alone.

Because of you, another school leader will walk into work tomorrow knowing how to lead his or her team.

Help Mr Matengu train others like him.
